The Silver Line is a free and confidential helpline which supports older people and their carers who may be feeling socially isolated or lonely. The 24 hour helpline can be accessed by one simple free phone number - 0800 4 70 80 90. The Silver Line offers:
- friendship, information and advice
- links callers to local groups and services
- matches callers with Silver Line Friend volunteers for telephone or letter friendship
- protects and supports those who are suffering abuse and neglect by transferring them to other services, where appropriate.
Silver Line Friends are trained and vetted volunteers who have contacted The Silver Line because they enjoy talking with, or writing to older people. If callers would like to be put in touch with Silver Line Friends, they can receive a regular friendship call or can be matched for letter exchange. Or they may like to join a Silver Circle and take part in a regular group telephone call on subjects that interest them.
